History

The Hotel Stefanie has been family owned for four generations. It was first opened in 1896 by Therese Witzman, the current owner’s great grandmother. It is named after the Belgian Princess Stephanie, the wife of Crown Pince Rudolf. Crown Prince Rudolf was the only son of Kaiser Franz Josef and his queen, „Sissi“, Kaiserin Elisabeth was the Arch Duke and successor to the throne of Austria-Hungary.

The history of this hotel mirrors the century’s history of Bad Vöslau. While it was being built, in May, 1895, there was also the senational first electric street car running from Baden to Bad Vöslau. Even better was the last stop was right next to the hotel! If you were sitting on the hotel’s terrace you could see not only the people there for the thermal baths and getting off the new trolleys, but, you could also see the members of the royal family, who frequently exited their own coach to visit these thermal baths.

Over the years, Hotel Stefanie changed: The rooms have been lovingly renovated, the magnificent gardens were given a new life, and the café-bar was again used for guests and visitors.

Never the less, through all the modernizations and renovations the Hotel Stefanie has never lost  the charm and atmosphere which it has always had.
